Word Of Mouth is Powerful

Aloha Small Business 'Ohana,

That’s how I found out yesterday. A text from my son. I was in the kitchen figuring out a new meal plan, he was at his computer in the basement.

He had seen a retweet within 20 min of Biden’s announcement from someone he follows who tweets about gaming news.

Word of Mouth is so powerful that President Biden chose to announce he was dropping out of the 2024 Presidential Race on Twitter, before any other platform, including the White House website. He told his staff one minute before the tweet, presumably to avoid leaks.

STRATEGY IN ACTION

This was a strategic decision to control the distribution of this message while maximizing reach.

Biden posted to other platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Threads), within minutes, and the White House website was updated about 20 minutes later. Cable news networks were reporting within several minutes of the tweet and broadcast networks broke the news around 1 pm CT, as did print and digital news networks.

As small business owners, we likely don’t have the reach of #POTUS. However, this example is interesting to me on many levels. The choice of platform and style of his announcement. The immediacy of word of mouth at place through other digital platforms.

There is no doubt, Word of Mouth is the most powerful form of marketing out there.

IMPACT ON YOUR BUSINESS

How does this impact your business? Not from a political standpoint, but from a marketing strategy standpoint.

Understanding that social media is a tactic where the initial news drop happened. Then everyone started talking about it. Through other social platforms, digital platforms, text messages, phone calls, cable news, broadcast, email, and in-person conversations. How many people are talking about your business and what are they saying? There are many questions to explore, and I’m here to help when you are ready.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

So how did you find out? How many other people were informed before you heard? How many people did you inform and through what form of communication?

I'd love to hear your experience and hope you'll leave a comment below and share with others. After all, it's about word of mouth.
